Venue Manager, Dalston Roof Park
Fixed Term Contract until 30th September 2018, 40 hours per week
Salary in the region of £35,000 (dependent on experience)

Run and manage the Dalston Roof Park (DRP) to support the wider aims of the charity, including revenue generation to create a funding stream for Bootstrap Company. Work collaboratively with the team to maximise income and programme a diverse range of events in accordance with licensing and health and safety principles. Support DRP being a remarkable venue that people enjoy working from, visiting and playing at.

Duties and Key Responsibilities


  • Ensure that the venue is run in a safe, orderly and disciplined manner in accordance with the conditions of the licence and Health and Safety requirements
  • Ensure venue is opened and fully operational at scheduled times and standards are maintained throughout hours of operation
  • Work with the bookings team and other Bootstrap Staff to plan effectively for upcoming events and ensure events are successful
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain a high standard of customer management at all times, including dealing with difficult customers/ clients
  • Oversee the running of food operations, working with bookings team to ensure client needs are catered for
  • Act as Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) of the venue
  • Follow all company security procedures, including loss prevention measures and procedures for the security of staff and premises
  • Ensure that all health and safety, fire and building regulations are complied with
  • Ensure a high level of cleanliness is maintained in the venue and associated areas, including DRP storage, reception area and stairwell.
  • Monitor and manage all maintenance issues and manage third-party contractors, including cleaners, where applicable
  • Ensure that


  • Proactively monitor sales, margins and expenditure, taking appropriate and timely action to deal with any negative variances against budget
  • Order stock and other goods as required from preferred suppliers
  • Ensure secure and safe-keeping of stock, goods and equipment, ensuring all stock is accounted for and that control procedures are complied with
  • Follow all financial controls procedures. Ensure all cash is controlled and accounted for, floats and tills are reconciled, sufficient provision of floats and safes properly maintained.
  • Provide weekly finance reports, including forecasts
  • Complete Duty Logs and send to your Manager to ensure standards are maintained and handover of any issues
  • Work with accounting team to ensure they are provided with timely financial information


  • Recruit and train bar team, including organising and delivering the induction and training of staff, ensuring that all staff have the skills to undertake their work safely and accurately
  • Rota staff accordingly, ensuring staff wage budgets are managed whilst ensuring the bar and events are appropriately resourced
  • Ensure all Bootstrap Company human resources policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Review and update Risk Assessments and ensure understanding amongst staff


  • Attend Bootstrap team meetings once a month
  • Attend Bootstrap Trading Company Board Meetings and catch ups
  • Work with other Bootstrap staff as required ensuring there is appropriate flow of information
  • Follow all Bootstrap Company policies and procedure
  • Carry out other duties as requested by your line manager

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience of running a bar/ venue
  • Strong financial skills
    • Experience of managing P&L for a similar venue/ bar
    • Ability to forecast income and expenditure and control variables
  • Technologically confident with experience of using excel, electronic point of sale and accounting software. Knowledge of EPOS, iZettle and Xero would be desirable
  • Experience of managing a bar team, security staff, and working with promoters
  • Be organised, have excellent attention to detail whilst managing at the macro level
  • Be a personal licence holder, ideally with experience of being a DPS of a venue
  • Ability to get on with a diverse range of people, especially in highly pressurised situations
