Africa Day Rooftop Celebration
It’s Africa Day on May 25th, and for the second year running, the spirit of Africa is being celebrated on the streets of Dalston.
On Africa Day – Thursday May 25th- we’ll be co-hosting a celebration of unity at Dalston Roof Park with Toyin Agbetu speaking, and music by SelassieTBC, Mr Redley and Teju Adeleye. You’ll be able to enjoy delicious drinks and African food by Far Out Food while the sun sets over the Dalston skyline.
Toyin Agbetu is the founder of Ligali, a Pan African Human Rights Organisation that challenges the misrepresentation of African people, culture and history in the British media. His international profile increased when on 27 March 2007 he successfully challenged the British monarch, church and government at Westminster Abbey, London at their public ritual of disrespect to the millions of African people lost during Maafa.
SelassieTBC is half of Brownswood’s Future Bubblers team and aWorldwide FM host. Expect beats, grooves, and an eclectic selection bound together with a soulful feel. He also jointly heads up Pattern Sounds, a musical outlet and soon to be label. Supermalt runs in his veins (shouts to Davina), he also eats rice for breakfast.
Mr. Redley initially cut his teeth playing in clubs across Greater Manchester, and has been busy since arriving back in London town. He hosts the monthly ‘Café Au Lait‘ show on Balamii radio alongside putting on a number of small and intimate nights across the big smoke. Often focusing on Detroit and Chicago House, he also draws on sounds from South America to Africa and everything in-between.
Tej Adeleye is a writer, radio show host/DJ under the name Floating Roofs at NTS Radio and Programme Co-ordinator at Sound Connections
