What’s the Social
Need? Youth unemployment. Schools are struggling
to prepare young people to be work ready. The younger generation are being hit hardest by the impact of the financial crisis.
What’s the
Solution? “Learning through doing’ in the work
place. Real life experience for personal development and improve employability
skills.
Why is this unique? Bootstrap has a diverse and talented tenant body of over 500
start up businesses. Tenants cover every sector – from the arts to social
enterprise and work alongside each other at desks & studio spaces.
What is
Bootstrap? Bootstrap Company is a social enterprise,
based in Hackney since 1980. Bootstrap supports startup enterprises, runs
innovative educational projects and events.
How will it work? Bootstrap Campus will help 16-24 yr old’s transition into work
through a blend of open days, workshops, work experience & work placements.
The project will focus on improving employability skills to help young people
transition into work, training or further education.
What's the Impact? Bootstrap Campus will create new networks for young people from
disadvantaged backgrounds. Lack of experience is a major barrier for young
people trying to get into work.
The work place
has changed. The modern workplace is
flexible, creative and networked. “The jobs
that 16-year-olds will be doing in 10 years time haven't been invented yet.”
Our long term vision?
–
Bootstrap Campus
is a stepping stone into work, education, training.
–
We want to
inspire young people with a DIY attitude to their career.
–
Build a community
of Bootstrap graduates who go on to start work at Bootstrap or are helped to
start their own enterprise.
